fireflies lighting up a rural Pennsylvania field at dusk

spaghetti-trek

As a european i sometimes forget furefkied are actually real and not american folklore/cryptids. Like you’ve got friendly little bugs that glow in the dark….. b r uh

roach-works

in case europeans were worried: we love them very much! even tho they’re clumsy and slow and sometimes bump into you, no one swats fireflies here, or takes them for granted. even grownups sometimes reach out in the summer and gently catch a firefly for a minute before letting it go.

actualaster

By “reach out” that’s meant quite literally–you just kinda. Stick your hand in their flight path and they land on you and will sit on your hand for a bit. Sometimes if you’re just walking or standing outside while they’re active you have to shoo them off you because they’ll just. Sit on you.

They’re harmless and very pretty and it’s always a treat to see because they’re out for a relatively short time each year.

This is WILD.

kamikaze-kumquat

Studios loooove to film in cities like New Orleans where the studios receive massive tax breaks to film there. Do y'all think any of the actors see that? Nope.

quasi-normalcy

Also, like, if you're renting 2 apartments, 1 in LA and 1 in Vancouver, that's probably about $4,000/mo. right there.

thurisazsalail

this gets worse the more i read

like, i knew a lot of shows film places with new orleans or vancouver

but that isn’t taken out of movie profits? those box office profits or the profits the show made do not include business expenses like... paying for your actors? at LEAST per season? and they have to pay for two whole cities worth of stuff, and most states also have state taxes (which florida doesn’t have.)

CGI animators should unionize next. normally, their jobs would be too precarious to strike, since studios would replace them without a second thought, but if it's part of this larger general film strike, they might finally have meaningful power to better their working conditions

studentofetherium

if CGI animators unionized, it would kill the MCU. straight up. the the entire business model is built on exploiting CGI animators

Tweet from The Animation Guild @animation guild) that says: "We need your help! #Disney refuses to recognize #animation production workers in their effort to #unionize. Show your support and sign the petition at https://iatse.net/online-action/disney-production/ "ALT

don’t forget during the WGA strike that animation is not covered under the WGA deals and as a result animation has gotten the shortest possible end of the stick in under-staffing, under-paying, and generally turning the field into gig employment.

please sign the petition here for Disney to recognize animation production workers as a union and reblog this post!

At first Netflix said, come write for us. We’ll save your cancelled shows and write about whatever niche story you want. Our algorithm says people will watch it!

Then a few years later they said, regardless of our promises or contract obligations we are cancelling shows after two seasons without telling anyone. Turns out no matter how loved a show is, we get less subscriptions after the second season.

How many subscriptions did we bring you? Netflix won’t say.

So writers started writing two season shows. Just give us two seasons, Netflix. Like you promised.

Then Netflix said, oops sorry! Turns out your show didn’t premiere at #1 and the views in the first day weren’t what we wanted so we’re cancelling your second season.

What were the numbers? How many people watched our show? Netflix doesn’t say.

Then, they did something extra special. They started taking shows and splitting their first season into two halves. Inside Job was not two seasons. It was one season split in half.

Oops! Sorry! The second half of your first season didn’t do as well as the first half, so now your show is cancelled!

Why? How many people? How much money? These companies are making cash hand over fist and they refuse to tell people the truth: people loved your show. Loved it. But some corpo exec wanted an infinite money making machine. Do you know how long shows are in production for before you watch them? Years. Like, 5+, even 10+ years. And Netflix gives it less than a week before they decide whether you’re getting cancelled.
